Reflecting on Film Works Series : Shore Variations

Claudia will present her work 'Shore Variations'.

'Shore Variations' (2018, 27.32min) is a video documenting an improvisation on the shore beneath the chalk cliffs of Birling Gap (UK), a site which undergoes spectacular levels of erosion on a regular basis. A female body moves with the tide in a physical and contemplative dialogue, with the intention of probing what can emerge at the confluence of material bodies. Through empathy correlations emerge and connections are made. Alternating between black and white and colour, and between singular and multiple viewpoints, the video document seeks to involve the onlookers in the enquiry. The project foregrounds the embodied self as a mediating entity and explores the possibilities afforded by physical encounters, duration, and empathy.

'Shore Variations' is a collaboration with Julieanna Preston, performance artist and Professor for Spatial Practice at Massey University, Wellington NZ.
