Based on a research around the singularity in the body as archive, Stellaria Media is a multimedial performance involving movement, video-documentary and ethno-musical research.
Starting by principles of authentic movement and instant composition the performance is a walk on the traces of the Stellaria Media, a spontaneus plant, of mediterranean origins, became cosmopolitan during the centuries.
The performer, of italian origins, wants to propose to the spectators, through a meeting on zoom, the double experience of her sight and that of the video maker that films her moving, interacting with the plant and singing traditional chants from the southern Italian culture.
Investigating the singulars experience of the same space and time fragments, the author researches in her voice-movement explorations, through the fluids, the muscles, the organs and their relationship with this ancient plant, a bridge between the past and the present; an integration of the individual and collective sight.
Fabiana Mercadante, name in art Iana, is an Italian writer, videographer, and performer. Her artistic research revolves around the relationship between bodies, history, and cities, creating artistic hybrids involving conscient movement and video-documentary. She is developing a Ph.D. in Performative Arts for the Universidade de Lisboa where she is conducting research on creative processes, and the relationship between body expression and self-censorship in the Italian culture. In 2016 she founded the Flooding Lab, a touring collective involved in researching political bodies and narrativity. Starting from an exploration of performative practices and a study on the ephemeral of presence, the collective developed site-specific performances, involving people from the territory, who are not necessarily practitioners of the performative arts.
