The Practice of Somatic Orchestration: An Experiential Session

Jamie McHugh

18:00 - 19:30

The Practice of Somatic Orchestration

The five indigenous technologies of the soma - Breath, Vocalization, Contact, Movement and Stillness – are each basic sensorimotor “instruments” that stimulate and settle the organism with different tones in varied ways. Giving each instrument relative degrees of prominence, highlighting one over the other while simultaneously engaging all, enables a creative, improvisational unfolding of the synergistic musicality of the sensate self, with the whole being greater than the sum of its component parts.

Jamie McHugh is an interdisciplinary artist, somatic movement specialist and the creator of Somatic Expression® - Body Wisdom for Modern Times. His approach to the art and craft of embodiment is inspired by contact and study with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, Emilie Conrad, Anna Halprin, Thich Nhat Hanh and the wild places of the planet. Living in rural Mendocino California, he works with groups and individuals online and maintains a daily relational practice with the ocean.
